The federation results for the national final
of the Gempack Recipe competition, the Make and Model
and the Table Quiz are in and we are looking forward to another great contests finals weekend in An Grianan from 12th-14th March.
Again we want to thank our sponsors Gempack, Hickey's and Delgany Guild
who have made this wekend possible.
48 entries were received for the creative writing competition.
11 have been shortlisted to go forward to An Grianan in March
when they will be read in an Effective Speaking competition.

Baumann Cup for Art A Pencil Drawing of a Women's Face
30 entries were received.
The drawings are with the judge and the results will be announced shortly
We have had two great days in Abbeyleix at the national final
of the Baumann Shield for Music, the Patsy Lawlor Set Dancing in 2008 and 2009
and the Eleanora Gibbon Shield for Music as Gaeilge in 2008.
Let's make 2010 even better with more entries and more federations
represented in our centenary year.
The talent is out there all around the country.
Federation results have to be with the National Contest Secretary by Wednesday 31 st March

Let's try not to have too many entries with the same song.
If you google ‘songs with women's name' you will get a very long list!
Eleanora Gibbon Shield two simple songs as gaeilge (not sean nós)
This was a very enjoyable competition in 2008.
It was lovely hearing and remembering the songs we learnt in school or in the Gaeltacht.
Again let's try not to have too many entries with the same song.
Maybe Beidh Aonach Amárach should be banned this time!!

Rules for both Baumann Shield and Eleanora Gibbon Shield:
Group of 4-10 singers (need not all be from same guild)
No backing track allowed.
Accompanist need not be an ICA member but all singers must be paid up members of ICA.
If group want a conductor the conductor must be accompanist or counted as one of the singers therefore the maximum number of people performing is 11
Patsy Lawlor Cup for Set Dancing - Full Set
Patsy Lawlor Shield for Set Dancing- Half Set
- Marching on and off stage is not permitted
- Teams will be required to dance two figures of their chosen set
- Dancing shoes (ie jig, hornpipe or batter) are not permitted
- Uniforms will gain no extra marks
- Teams need not be all from same guild.
- The title of the set (eg Cashel, Kerry etc.) must be submitted with entry
- There will be musicians at the national final to play for the sets
Federation results to national contest secretary by 31st March.
National final in Abbeyleix Manor Hotel Abbeyleix, Co Laois
on Saturday 24 th April
Special ICA rate of €45 B&B per person sharing or €50 single
if you feel like staying over in the hotel.
49 wonderful Guild Year Books were received from federations
for the Betty Manning Trophy
It is clear that a huge amount of work went into the year books
and it is evident that ICA is alive and well with women from guilds all over the country doing amazing things and rejoicing in being part of ICA.
The books were judged by two judges independently
and then the marks were added giving a final score out of 200.
Scoring from 160-173 marks the following year books
were Highly Commended

Derryquay Kerry with 162 marks and Blanchardstown Dublin 164
Cappamore Guild Limerick with 168 marks

and Kilmore Quay Guild Wexford with 173 marks

Dunshaughlin Guild Meath were 3rd with 178 marks

Carrick-on-Suir Guild Tipperary Sth were 2nd with 187 marks

and the winners with 192 marks were Annascaul Guild Kerry.

The winner in the colour section and overall winner was
Muriel Kerr from Kinlough Guild Leitrim.
Her prize was collected at the winter conference by
Bernadette Mc Loughlin Leitrim Contest Secretary.
  
Breda Buckley from Goleen Guild Cork was 2nd.
Mairéad O'Carroll Cork Federation President accepted her award
and Jenny Jones from Ashford Guild Wicklow was 3rd in the colour section and winner in the black and white category.
